How long does DC fast charging take?

Often less than 20 minutes to an hour for a typical stop. The Department of Energy says DC fast charging adds about 100 to 200+ miles of range per 30 minutes, from stations rated at up to 500 kW. Most quoted times run from 10% or 20% to 80%, because charging slows down near full.

DC fast charging, also called Level 3, sends direct current straight to the battery and skips the car's onboard charger. The car still sets the pace. It takes high power when the battery is low and cuts back as it fills, and it may hold power down when the battery is cold.

The guide to the EV charging curve explains why the last 20% is slow, and the Alternative Fuels Data Center lists the plug types: CCS, CHAdeMO and J3400, based on Tesla's NACS.
