How long does it take to charge an electric car?

Anywhere from under 20 minutes on a DC fast charger to 20 hours or more on a household outlet. Taking a 75 kWh battery from 20% to 80% needs about 50 kWh from the wall. That is 6 hours 31 minutes on a 32 amp Level 2 charger and about 34.7 hours on a 120 volt outlet.

The time depends on how much energy you add and the charger power. The Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center puts Level 1 at about 5 miles of range per hour, Level 2 at about 25 miles per hour and DC fast charging at about 100 to 200+ miles per 30 minutes.

The EV charging time calculator works it out for your battery and charger, and the EV charging time chart lists the EPA full charge time for each model. The guide to EV charging levels compares the three options.
