EVSE
EVSE stands for electric vehicle supply equipment, the charging station, cable and connector that deliver power to an EV. Charging ports are sometimes called EVSE ports.
A home Level 2 wall unit is an EVSE, and so is the portable cord used for Level 1 charging. For AC charging, the EVSE supplies power and the car's onboard charger converts it for the battery.
The Department of Energy recommends safety-certified equipment, such as ENERGY STAR certified chargers, installed by a certified electrical contractor. The guide to home EV charger sizes covers amps, circuits and charge times.
